· Keep mission-critical SQL Server platforms healthy, fast and recoverable, day in and day out
· Hands-on L2 SQL DBA role across on-premises, Azure SQL and hybrid configurations
· Join a global team that goes beyond for its customers, every day of the year
We’re now looking for a Level 2 SQL Server Database Administrator to join our Managed Services - Database Operations team, based in our Fusion5 GCC in India and serving customers across New Zealand and Australia. Our customers run their payroll, supply chains, finance ledgers and patient records on SQL Server - when something slows down or stops, they call us. You’ll work shifts aligned to AU and NZ business hours, with an after-hours on-call rotation supporting our follow-the-sun model, working alongside our L3 specialists, application teams and customer architects to keep databases healthy and performant across on-premises, Azure SQL and hybrid configurations.
What You’ll Do
Working within our Managed Services team, you’ll triage fast, fix cleanly, and keep customers moving - bringing the calm authority of someone who has seen it before and knows what good looks like.
· Incident response. Resolve P2 and P3 incidents within SLA across a multi-tenant SQL Server estate, with crisp written communication to customers throughout.
· Change delivery. Execute scheduled patching, version upgrades, refreshes and migrations through our ITIL change process — cleanly, with a rollback plan, every time.
· Performance. Investigate slow queries, tune indexes, analyse wait stats and execution plans, and feed recommendations back to customer development teams.
· Resilience. Maintain Always On Availability Groups, log shipping and replication; rehearse and validate restores; own the proof that customers can recover.
· Automation. Replace manual toil with PowerShell, dbatools and pipeline automation — then share what you have built with the rest of the practice.
Essential Experience
· Three to five years administering production Microsoft SQL Server 2016 or later in a managed services, in-house or consulting environment.
· Strong working knowledge of HADR patterns - Always On Availability Groups, failover clustering, log shipping, replication.
· Confident with backup and recovery strategy, point-in-time restores and disaster recovery rehearsals.
· Practical performance tuning: query plans, indexes, statistics, wait stats, and Query Store.
· PowerShell scripting and familiarity with dbatools or equivalent.
· Working understanding of ITIL incident, problem and change management.
· Comfortable working across cultures and time zones, with clear written English suitable for AU and NZ customer communication.
What You’ll Bring
This role suits a calm, customer-first DBA who brings both technical depth and a generous, team-oriented mindset. You’re likely to bring:
· Wholehearted, outcome-focused accountability - you understand that IT is about solving human problems.
· Composure under incident pressure - clear and unhedging in your written updates.
· Generosity and curiosity - quick to explore new tooling and share what you learn with the team.
· A one-team mindset - honest with your opinions, while partnering respectfully across teams and time zones.
· The following are also highly regarded: hands-on experience with Azure SQL Database, Managed Instance and SQL on Azure VMs; familiarity with monitoring stacks such as SolarWinds DPA, Redgate Monitor, SCOM or Datadog; and prior MSP or multi-tenant operations exposure.
What’s in it for you?
“Go Beyond” isn’t a marketing line at Fusion5 - it’s the standard we hold ourselves to. It reflects a convergence of solutions, services, and capabilities that enables clients to realise their business vision, with AI as a strategic lever for transformation.
At Fusion5, you’ll have the support of an established trans-Tasman organisation, work alongside people who genuinely care about outcomes - not just output - and have real opportunities to grow your career. We’re proud to be a diverse, inclusive and forward-thinking employer, and we’re committed to creating a workplace where our people feel engaged, challenged, supported and successful.
· A clear career runway - investment in your learning, conference passes, and a pathway to the next level, whether that’s senior technical, lead, or specialist.
· A genuine seat in a global team - daily collaboration across Australia, New Zealand and our GCC, with direct exposure to customer architects and executives.
· Genuine wellbeing support - wellness leave, paid volunteering days, EAP, and a culture that protects the on-call experience.
· Modern hardware and the best of the Microsoft and Oracle partner ecosystems, with time built into your week for learning and innovation.
If you’re a hands-on SQL Server DBA who takes pride in keeping mission-critical systems healthy and wants to work within a team that genuinely goes beyond for its customers, we’d love to hear from you.
