- Drive transformation with Fusion5 in 2026
- Inspire teams & shape strategies that unlock AI, data & innovation for maximum client impact
- Join an innovative, growing, flexible & passionate organisation
Be the technical authority who turns complex data challenges into scalable, high‑impact solutions, helping Fusion5's customers realise real business value from their data.
At Fusion5 we're more than a solutions provider - we're Transformation Partners. We help ambitious organisations across Australia and New Zealand go beyond software to unlock more value, freedom, innovation, and impact from their technology investments. We're passionate about helping customers succeed, and we bring the same energy to supporting our people.
We're growing our Data & Integration team and now looking for a talented, engaging Principal Data Engineer to provide senior technical leadership across complex data initiatives. This is a role for someone who combines deep hands‑on engineering expertise with consulting maturity - someone comfortable influencing direction, guiding teams, and working directly with customers to solve meaningful problems.
What you'll do
This is a role where your expertise will directly shape the future of data platforms and analytics for some of Australia's most ambitious organisations. As a Principal Data Engineer at Fusion5, you'll sit at the intersection of architecture, delivery, and advisory - leading by example and helping others raise the bar. You'll work closely with customers, architects, consultants and delivery teams to design and deliver modern, scalable data solutions, while providing confident leadership in complex and often ambiguous environments. You will:
- Lead the design, build, and support of data engineering solutions across multiple projects and customers.
- Work end‑to‑end across the lifecycle - from early technical input and scoping, through implementation and upgrades, to BAU support, optimisation, and documentation.
- Analyse and document business and technical requirements, proposing fit‑for‑purpose data engineering solutions that address customer needs.
- Design and deliver solutions using modern software development lifecycle principles and engineering best practices.
- Provide expert technical advice, troubleshooting, and consultancy support to customers, project managers, and internal teams.
- Support project delivery through technical planning, estimates, solution reviews, and upgrade activities.
- Train client stakeholders and contribute to internal training and knowledge sharing.
- Build strong customer relationships and support pre‑sales and proposal activities where required.
- Lead, mentor, and develop other data engineers, contributing to recruitment, capability uplift, and continuous improvement.
What you'll bring
You're an experienced technical leader who sets the standard - mentoring others, shaping capability, and helping build strong, sustainable engineering teams. You'll have:
- Demonstrated experience as a technical authority, leading the design of scalable, secure, and fit-for-purpose data architectures across complex environments.
- A strong transformation mindset, with experience modernising data platforms and enabling advanced analytics, Copilot, machine learning (ML), and AI-ready use cases.
- Strong hands-on data engineering capability, including data ingestion, transformation, integration, troubleshooting, and supporting production data platforms.
- Experience working across the full data platform lifecycle - from early scoping and architecture design through to implementation, optimisation, and BAU support.
- Proven ability to analyse and document business and technical requirements, translating them into well-architected, best-practice data and analytics solutions with a focus on Copilot / ML / AI readiness.
- Strong grounding in modern data engineering practices, including data modelling, pipeline design, platform optimisation, security, performance, and preparation of data for ML and AI workloads.
- Strong experience with modern data platforms such as Microsoft Fabric (preferred), as well as Snowflake and Databricks.
- Confidence providing expert technical advice and consulting support to customers, project managers, and internal teams, particularly in relation to data platform architecture and AI-enabled solutions.
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships and influence outcomes at all levels.
- A relevant tertiary qualification.
Please note only locally based applicants with full legal rights to work in Australia will be considered for this role.
