# Senior Software Engineer - AI Platform

**Help us build the platform that makes enterprise AI agents observable, governable and trustworthy**

Fusion5’s Agent Operations Centre is a live SaaS platform that helps organisations understand how their AI agents are behaving in production.

The platform is already running, internal onboarding is underway, and our first external customer trials are approaching. We are now looking for a senior software engineer to join the small core team building and operating it.

This is a hands-on role with broad ownership across the application and cloud stack. You will take meaningful problems from initial investigation through implementation, deployment and production operation.

You will also work in a genuinely AI-native engineering environment. We use AI extensively to accelerate implementation, investigation and delivery - but human engineers remain accountable for architecture, security, correctness and production outcomes.

If you are an experienced engineer who enjoys working across system boundaries, making pragmatic decisions and leading through the quality of your engineering, this could be an unusually influential role.

**About Fusion5**

Fusion5 is a business transformation partner operating across Australia and New Zealand. We help organisations create greater value from their technology investments across business applications, AI, cloud, data, integration and managed services.

The Agent Operations Centre is part of Fusion5’s investment in helping organisations adopt agentic AI safely and effectively. It gives organisations the visibility and governance needed to understand what their agents are doing, identify problems and operate them with confidence.

You will join a small engineering team led by our AI Platform Engineering Lead and work closely with our CTO of AI Transformation. Because the team and product are still growing, you will have meaningful influence over both the platform and the way we build and operate it.

**What you’ll do**

You will own significant changes end to end, from understanding the underlying need through to safely operating the result in production.

**Your work will include:**

- Building and evolving customer-facing capabilities across the React front end and TypeScript back end
- Developing the services, APIs and data models that support a secure multi-tenant SaaS platform
- Working with telemetry ingestion, event-processing pipelines and the systems that detect faults, anomalies and policy concerns
- Improving the platform’s Azure infrastructure, deployment pipelines and production safeguards
- Strengthening observability so that we can understand system behaviour and diagnose problems quickly
- Applying sound security practices across identity, secrets, permissions, networking and customer data
- Investigating production issues across application and infrastructure boundaries
- Safely deploying and monitoring your own changes
- Working with internal teams and early customers to understand their needs and turn feedback into product improvements
- Improving documentation, testing, operational processes and shared understanding as the engineering team grows
- Participating in production support and an appropriate on-call model once you have developed the necessary platform knowledge

This is not a narrowly defined front-end, back-end or infrastructure position. You will work wherever the most important problem exists.

**How we work with AI**

AI-assisted development is a normal part of engineering at Fusion5, not an occasional experiment.

We are looking for someone who knows how to use AI as a source of leverage while retaining independent technical judgment. You should be comfortable delegating substantial implementation work to AI, providing it with appropriate context and constraints, and critically reviewing what it produces.

That means knowing when to accept an approach, when to refine it and when to reject it entirely. You will remain personally accountable for the quality, security, maintainability and production behaviour of the work you ship.

We are less interested in which particular AI tools you use than in how effectively and responsibly you use them.

**What you’ll bring**

Most importantly, you will bring strong engineering judgment, a record of owning production outcomes and the confidence to work across different parts of a system.

**Your experience may include:**

- Building and operating production software, ideally within a SaaS product
- Independently taking substantial changes from problem definition through to production
- Working across TypeScript back-end services and React applications
- Operating cloud infrastructure, deployment pipelines and managed services
- Designing relational data models and working confidently with SQL
- Using automated testing and observability to validate changes and diagnose production failures
- Building secure systems that handle customer data, identity and tenant isolation
- Making proportionate technical decisions in a fast-moving environment
- Using AI throughout your engineering workflow while critically reviewing its output
- Communicating decisions clearly and challenging assumptions constructively
- Working effectively with ambiguity and without detailed task-by-task direction

Our platform uses technologies including Azure, TypeScript, Node.js, React, PostgreSQL, OpenTelemetry, Application Insights and KQL. Experience with these technologies is useful, as is exposure to event-driven systems, database migrations and AI agent platforms or frameworks such as Microsoft Copilot Studio, Microsoft Foundry, Amazon Bedrock AgentCore, Google ADK or LangChain.

We don’t expect one person to arrive with experience in every technology or domain listed here. What matters most is evidence of sound judgment, the ability to learn quickly and a history of taking meaningful work through to production.

**What success looks like**

During your first six months, we would expect you to:

- Develop a strong understanding of the platform’s architecture and critical workflows
- Independently deliver meaningful product or platform improvements
- Safely deploy and monitor your own work
- Diagnose problems across the application and infrastructure stack
- Contribute to better testing, observability, documentation and operational safeguards
- Help distribute platform knowledge across the growing team
- Use AI to increase delivery speed without compromising engineering quality
- Become a trusted contributor to technical and product decisions

**Why join us?**

This role offers a combination that is difficult to find: the influence and technical breadth of an early product team, backed by an established trans-Tasman organisation.

**You will have:**

- Significant autonomy and direct influence over a live AI product
- Real customer and production problems to solve
- Direct access to the people making product and technology decisions
- An engineering environment in which thoughtful AI use is actively expected
- The opportunity to help establish how an AI-native engineering team works
- Space to remain deeply hands-on while contributing to architecture and product direction
- The chance to help organisations adopt agentic AI with greater confidence

We know strong senior engineers arrive through different paths. If the role matches the way you like to work but you do not meet every item listed above, we would still like to hear from you.

Tell us about something meaningful you have owned in production, and how you use AI without surrendering your engineering judgment.
