# Data Engineer - Consultant

- *Build and deliver modern data platforms for some of New Zealand's most ambitious organisations*
- *Work across Fabric, Azure and Databricks — and keep growing as the stack evolves*
- *Join a collaborative, high-performing team that invests in your development*

At Fusion5, we're more than a solutions provider — we're a Transformation Partner. Across Australia and New Zealand, we help ambitious organisations go beyond by unlocking greater value, innovation and impact from their technology investments. Across business applications, AI, cloud, data, integration and managed services, we bring together connected solutions that solve real business problems and deliver lasting value. We're deeply committed to our customers' success, and we bring that same energy and care to supporting our people.

We're looking for a **Data Engineer** to join our New Zealand Data & Analytics team in either Auckland, Wellington or Christchurch. This is a hands-on delivery role for someone who's solid across the modern data stack, takes ownership of their work, and thrives in a consulting environment where no two engagements are quite the same.

You'll build and deliver data platforms end-to-end — ingestion, transformation, modelling and reporting — working alongside architects and senior consultants, and contributing to a team that fundamentally cares about quality and about each other.

**What You'll Do**
You'll work across the full delivery lifecycle on client engagements — from design and build through to testing, deployment and handover. You'll own workstreams with real responsibility and manage your own quality and timelines. You will:

- Build and maintain data ingestion, transformation, modelling and warehousing across Microsoft Fabric, Azure and Databricks — pipelines, notebooks and lakehouse/medallion designs, right first time
- Deliver Power BI reports and semantic models where client needs require it
- Work across our core platforms and apply the best-fit tool for each client, rather than defaulting to one approach
- Build data quality, security and governance practices into everything you deliver
- Contribute to data migration work — including CRM and ERP migrations alongside our Business Applications teams
- Support clients after go-live alongside our Managed Services team, keeping their platforms running well
- Use AI in your day-to-day work to deliver better and faster, and keep building your skills as the team's capability grows
- Contribute to the team's standards, reusable assets and knowledge base, and help develop more junior members

**What You'll Bring**
This role suits someone who's proven across the modern data stack, takes pride in building things well, and is ready to step up in a consulting environment. You're likely to bring:

- Solid hands-on data engineering experience (typically 3-6 years), able to own a delivery workstream with limited supervision and get productive quickly
- Hands-on experience across Microsoft Fabric, Azure (ADF, ADLS, Synapse) and Databricks — ingestion, transformation, modelling and warehousing
- Strong SQL and Python, with solid ETL/ELT pipeline design and data modelling skills
- Experience designing and building with lakehouse / medallion architecture
- Sound consulting basics — requirements, documentation, estimating, and clear client communication
- A quality mindset — building right first time, to standards, with a genuine eye for data quality
- A collaborative approach and a genuine interest in contributing to team culture
- The legal right to work in New Zealand with the ability to engage with clients across the country

Power BI and semantic modelling, Snowflake, dbt, Spark/PySpark, DevOps practices (Git, CI/CD, Terraform/Bicep), and data governance tooling such as Microsoft Purview are all valuable additions.

**What's in it for you?**
At Fusion5, you'll own real delivery from day one, with the backing of an established trans-Tasman organisation and experienced architects and consultants who'll help you grow — working alongside people who genuinely care about outcomes, not just output. We're proud to be a diverse, inclusive and forward-thinking employer, and we're committed to creating a workplace where our people feel engaged, challenged, supported and successful. Alongside this, we offer a strong set of values and benefits that reflect how we work and what we stand for.

- Collaborative, supportive culture where people enjoy working together
- Competitive Salary, flexible work arrangements and a genuine focus on work-life balance
- Birthday leave, volunteer days, and regular social events
- Clear development pathways and opportunities to grow with the practice

If you're an experienced data engineer who takes ownership of your work, enjoys variety, and wants to grow in a team that backs you — we'd love to hear from you. **Apply Now.**
